Sensible people don't bother reading the Green Guide letters page, because only nutters write in (and Brian Cox, who wrote in today to talk about Charles 'Bud' Tingwell's sad passing). But if you're not very sensible, then over the last few weeks you would have spotted this following string of mail...
Methinks someone has a slight ego inflation problem...
History’s full of comedians (May 7, 2009)
I FEEL compelled to put up my hand about Debi Enker’s article in last week’s Green Guide publicising the new game show Talkin’ ‘bout Your Generation. I am surprised that for such an “avid student of comedy history”, Shaun Micallef does not choose to look in his own backyard for a successful Australian female / male comedy duo. As a member of the comedy duo Tim and Debbie, I am constantly reminded of their enduring power by audience members, 25 years after our heyday. Shaun, remember we worked hard at paving the way for you pups like yourself.
Stephen Blackburn, Northcote.
Yesterday’s Man (May 14, 2009)
I FEEL compelled to respond to Stephen Blackburn’s peculiar letter (Letters, 7/5). Tim and Debbie were a one-joke oddity, and a laboured joke at that. Hardly Iconic. And for him to try and take credit for the emergance of a genuine comedic talent like Shaun Micallef beggars belief. There’s nothing more sad and bitter than yesterday’s man.
Martin Dwelly, Heathmont
Bring back Reel TV (May 14, 2009)
RE STEPHEN Blackburn’s letter last week, Tim and Debbie are worth 100 Shaun Micallefs. I can’t abide that smug know-all. The ABC should revive Tim & Debbie’s Reel to Real.
Russell Devlin, Seaford
Funny Business (May 21, 2009)
WHO is funnier than who? Shaun Micallef has given me some laughs and it’s a hard job. But if Shaun doubted the existence of a successful male / female comedy duo in Australia, the passionate responses (Letters, 14/5) to my letter prove otherwise. Even the guy who hated Tim and Debbie knew about us. He just needs some help.
