I saw Shaun at the show two nights before he was supposed to direct. I guess he was there to see what he could expect from the night. Cunning fox.
I was hoping he wouldn't use it as an opportunity to plan ahead so much, as it is Spontaneous Broadway. What a fool I was! He came in character - a German director named Claus (No! Aiieee!) - and with rough scenes already mapped out (No, Shaun! Why?!).
The audience voted for a pretty uninteresting story for Shaun to work with, so his prepared scenes turned an otherwise "Meh" musical into a bafflingly insane one.
Romance, time-travel, fantasy, accents... the premiere/final performance of Dirty Havier was an epic one. If only someone had made a poor-quality bootleg recording of it.
